ABOUT GAKUNDU
Gakundu Coffee Factory is located in Ngandori West, in the Kairuri area of Embu County, central Kenya. Set near Mount Kenya at around 1,650 metres above sea level, the area has red volcanic soils and two rainy seasons each year.
The factory works with local smallholder farmers through the Gakundu Farmers’ Cooperative Society. Coffee is grown alongside crops such as banana and maize, with trees including macadamia and grevillea providing shade.
At Gakundu, ripe cherries are sorted before pulping. The coffee then undergoes fermentation to break down the remaining mucilage, followed by thorough washing and drying. These stages are central to the factory’s washed processing approach.
Our Gakundu AA brings together Batian, Ruiru 11 and SL28 varieties. In the cup, we taste ripe peach, a gentle clove note and lingering syrupy sweetness.
